Words are the start of deeds....

...and so begin our cross country road trip.

Day 1 (Wednesday- Cinco de Mayo) 5/5/2010

We arrive in New Orleans to a chic hotel called the Ambassador that was graciously paid for by Joe. Thanks Joe!! The hotel was reminiscent of New Orleans style living, complete with brick walls and wood floors. After getting all primp and proper for a night on the town, we head out to eat at a local cajun creole dining spot. We settle for Pere Antoine where we dined on some seafood jumbalaya and gaige's chicken. The waiter was kind enough to direct us to a few jazzy bars downtown, a place called Frenchmen. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo the New Orleans way with jazz and people throwing beads at us in the street. People were able to let loose their Cajun side and dance away the night to some live jazz music. Further down Bourbon Street, we walk into the Irwin Mayfield's jazzclub, where cover is free but conditional on a one drink minimum. It was an intimate setting with little tables and sofas to sit in, relax, and enjoy the live music. After almost being lulled to sleep by the smooth jazz, it's time to head back to the hotel and get some beauty rest.

Day 2 (Thursday) 5/6/2010

After a breakfast of beignets at Cafe DuMonde it was off to Houston! We didn't arrive early enough to visit NASA, so we meandered to Hermann Park, a park to top all parks. It was complete with fat squirrels, giant ducks, climbable statue art, swings, playgrounds and train rides. This was a callback to our adventures in the Jimmy Carter Library at Atlanta. In other words, we took a ridiculous amount of ridiculous pictures. In ridiculous poses. After satisfying our thirst of photographing our adventures, we headed off to walk around downtown Houston. After finding no bbq joints to eat at, we drove to a legit local place called Hickory Hollow. Even the c and k were written backwards, that's how local it was. Feeling fat and full, we drive down to see downtown from away and afar to take in the sights of the Minute Maid Park and the rest of beautiful downtown Houston.
